About the Owner, Essex and Kent Wedding photographer Stephen Minett

Some years ago (a few to many to mention), following my eventful stay at university studying fine art and modern photography, and the subsequent apprenticeship, I decided the I would focus my attention on photography, wedding photography to be more precise. My intention like all aspiring wedding photographers was always to be rich and famous, the next David Bailey even, and it was with this intention I agreed to photograph my friend’s wedding some 17 years ago, my first taste of wedding photography, I earned a grand total of nothing for this first assignment, but was bitten by the wedding photography bug.

At the same time as the birth of the internet, I was lucky in that I happened across a lovely gentleman Essex wedding photographer who would give me the encouragement to go on to realize my ambition (and this is an ideal time to give credit to the most supportive parents anyone could wish for ). I built my first web site (still running today) and photographed weddings for free, much to the annoyance of the wedding photography community. I worked as a shop assistant, a lorry driver, a retail manager, designer and progresses in to senior management, but photography was the route I always wanted to take and the more Senior I became in the “Real world” the less time I had for my passion. My first paid wedding photography assignment was at Gosfield hall, I have the wonderful thank you from the bride and groom on my desk, it the office. My company Desiredimage was born, it would be many years of week end wedding photography and learning before I would find me writing this.

Taking the leap to quit the day job was the bravest and most fool hardy thing I have ever done! Like you I have my rent to pay and bill and Not being crazy I took on yet another Real job just in case, this Job was the turning point and opened doors and gave me the drive an determination, as well as the skills to finally make this jump for real. The Last Real job I held before becoming a full time wedding photographer was that of Professional Photographic consultant to Harrods of Knightsbridge, I had reached the pinnical that a combined love of photography and retail could possibly take me, I was a Professional photographer and I worked for Harrods. I was in a position where I had enough experience to train photographers in wedding photography, I was paid by the countries top shop to part with my knowledge It was at this point and with a deep breath I quit the day job. In 2011 I set up this website, I toyed with the Idea of “wedding photography by Stephen Minett dot com” a little vain I thought, so settled on GetMyPhoto.co.uk
